Pathways into Sports Chaplaincy
SCA is Australia’s nationally recognised provider of Sports Chaplaincy to elite, development and
grassroots sports.
For over 20 years SCA has forged highly valued partnerships with leading sports
bodies like CAMS, the AFL, and the Australian Institute of Sport.
The following provides you with a basic understanding of the process and requirements necessary
to become a sports chaplain.
Sports Chaplains often originate from Christian clergy, however an increased amount of chaplains
originate from local church lay leadership positions and other specific roles, i.e., key Christian
athletes, sports medico’s, etc.
SCA recognises the need to provide the highest levels of Sports Chaplaincy personnel and services

Local Church - A Stronger Partnership
It is the chief aim of SCA to help strengthen the relationship between chaplain and the local church/parish.
Sometimes Chaplaincy can be marginalised by the local church. SCA
recommend that the local church own the ministry/work of chaplaincy as an extension of their local
ministry team. This provides the best framework for accountability, care and success of the
chaplains ministry. For further assistance on how best to achieve this please contact our national
office on (03) 9808 1369.
